What's this Blog All About......?

I started this blog back when I was planning my first trip to Egypt in early 2011. I thought what an interesting way to share my experiences, keep my friends and family informed of my whereabouts and receive feedback from back home.

I've now travelled to Egypt many times and I hope my adventures in this beautiful and wonderful country are of interest and liking to all of you. Please comment and let me know what your thoughts and ideas are on what you see....I'd love to hear from you......!!

Last Day in Luxor .......

The Nile River
Well as many of you know, the situation in Egypt last week was intense, stressful and dangerous to say the least.  I’m glad to say that I returned to a quiet and calm Cairo last night.  I have never ever heard Cairo as quite as last night and tonight.  If you’ve ever been to Cairo, you know that its 24/7 of nonstop beeping of car horns….and I mean non-stop.  I wrote an article on my blog on my first trip here a couple of years ago regarding the whole system of car beeping in Cairo…lol…The craziest and most brazen drivers IN THE WORLD!... Of course, a lot of the quietness in Cairo has to do with the curfew in place.  Anyone in the streets past 7pm is subject to arrest or fined. General Sisi and the security police are keeping order and calm.

Waiting for my taxi
So on my last day in Luxor, since I had done pretty much all my business here,  the other guest , an Aussie from down under who came to Egypt to go diving and was also staying at Mara’s hotel, and I went sightseeing around Luxor.  We took some awesome pics and a very funny video of Amr trying to move a donkey out of the way so our car could move !...LOL…welcome to Egypt!

Some of the prettiest sites to shoot the Nile River are from Luxor and Aswan….just beautiful.  And I was lucky to have the sun shining on the river that made the pics spectacular.  I’m no professional photographer but I think they came out pretty good.

So by now I’ve been to the Souk (the market) so many times people started recognizing me and of course I became friends with some of them…Hani and his beautiful shops carrying all sorts of bling and Egyptian items.  A honest man and one I highly recommend you buy from.  The coffee shop owner that Amr would take me to get something to drink, Mustafa who used to have a jewelry workshop but business is so bad he had to close it down.  Interesting characters you meet along the way that create wonderful memories and in some cases it’s the beginning of wonderful friendships like Mohamed, Mara, Amr, Raghda, Samr and many others.
The Souk
One of the sad things I heard while at the Souk was about my young friend Mahmoud.  He was called to report to the military.  In Egypt there is a draft so all men must complete at least one year of military service but in Mahmoud’s case he was selected to be in training as an officer so he will be signed up for 3 years.  He usually has an enormous smile on his face and I found him a bit sad and down.  He’s so young my God !! I hope he will be safe and truly wish him well and many blessings during this difficult time in Egypt.

So pretty
It was truly a stressful week in Luxor but at the same time, it gave me time to relax and talk about politics, life, world hunger, lol…etc … many things with my friends there including visiting  Samar to see her new baby nephew named Oday who is adorable! He was 5 days old when I visited them.

So now I’m in Cairo and it’s a different world…..Its crowded, terrible traffic but also a place with friends.....Stay tuned for stories from here…..
Life is always good my friends, don’t forget that….Pray for Peace for Egypt….
